Stiff Arm Trophy

Heisman Projection: 56 ballots

Posted on December 3, 2012 in News.

Less than 30 minutes to finding out the finalists. I'm sticking with my morning take on who they'll be:

Still a long way to go, but I think we can safely say that we're seeing what will likely be the finalist list announced today: Johnny Manziel, Manti Te'o, and Collin Klein. The Heisman folks typically announce three to five finalists - though they've leaned toward the larger end of the range in recent years (TV ratings, presumably.) So, the question is, will they include Marqise Lee? After all, he's a human highlight reel from one of the country's traditional powers.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Lee get an invite to the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. (Not the Downtown Athletic Club. Memo to media: The DAC closed its doors years ago.)

Let me add this too -- it'd be a heckuva ratings bump to add Ohio State QB Braxton Miller to the mix. Given that they're not going to a bowl game, Buckeye Nation may treat the Heisman race as their bowl game. They'll be disappointed, but ESPN and Heisman folks won't be disappointed in the ratings they'd get.

Anyway, we are still a long, long way from having a complete projection - so hang tight, we'll have a lot more votes this evening now that the voting deadline has passed. (Last year, we had 231 ballots tracked, and 217 in 2010.)

For the eleventh year in a row, we're going to attempt to project the outcome of the greatest individual award in sports, the Heisman Trophy. So far, we've been right ten out of ten years.

But to do this, we need your help. If you read/see/hear someone identify themselves as an official voter (with or without their vote), post a comment on our voter tips line, share a note on our Facebook wall, or send us a note on Twitter (@stiffarmtrophy). If possible, provide a link (or at least tell us where you saw/heard/read it.)
