ESPN: J.T. Barrett speeds toward Heisman race
MINNEAPOLIS -- A Big Ten player shattered records Saturday and forced himself into the thick of the Heisman Trophy conversation.
Sure, that previous sentence describes Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon. But it also applies to Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett.
The fact that Barrett is anywhere near contention for the Heisman in mid-November is stunning. But the redshirt freshman just continues to surprise, perhaps never more so than on his 86-yard touchdown run in the first quarter of a 31-24 win at Minnesota.
