Stiff Arm Trophy

Week 7: Newton, Moore, James are your new Heisman leaders

Posted by Kari Chisholm on October 22, 2010 in News.

Pryor and Robinson drop, but remain top five.

For the first time since the pre-season poll, the Heisman race has a leader outside the Big 10 conference. A big game by Auburn QB Cam Newton has vaulted him into the lead in the StiffArmTrophy.com poll - this week with 61 Heisman voters. He's followed by Boise State QB Kellen Moore, who keeps hanging around the top three. Despite a bye week, Oregon RB LaMichael James comes in at #3. Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor and Michigan QB Denard Robinson close out the top five. Stanford QB Andrew Luck is #6.

Big moves were made this week by TCU QB Andy Dalton, Wisconsin RB John Clay, and Oklahoma QB Landry Jones who all jumped up into the top 10.

This week's debuts include Oklahoma St WR Justin Blackmon at #16, Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert at #17, and Kentucky WR Randall Cobb at #21.

Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez fell as fast as he rose, dropping from #4 to #13. South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore continued his erratic pattern, dropping from #14 to #23. After his first loss of the season, Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick dropped from #10 to #22.

Dropping out of the top 25 entirely were Florida St QB Christian Ponder, Oklahoma St RB Kendall Hunter, NC State QB Russell Wilson, South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia, and Michigan St LB Greg Jones.

61 actual Heisman voters from 35 states participated in the week seven StiffArmTrophy.com poll.
